Ca’ Pesaro apre le porte ad una straordinaria mostra dedicata ad Armando Testa, figura iconica del panorama artistico italiano del Novecento. Dal 20 aprile al 15 settembre 2024, la Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna di Venezia ospiterà un percorso espositivo che ripercorre la vita e la prolifica carriera di questo genio creativo.

Pochi giorni fa, sono andato a Ca’ Pesaro, perché sapevo c’erano due mostre nuove, questa di cui sto raccontando è una di quelle. Confesso che è stato un vero tuffo nel passato, e lo sarà per chiunque visitatore della mia generazione, che ha visto alla tv questi antenati dei post pubblicitari. Chi si ricorda dell’ippopotamo blu? Ecco che all’interno del museo, potrete vedere questi, e altri cartelloni pubblicitari, e vi lascerete prendere dalla nostalgia.

La mostra è localizzata al secondo piano del museo di Ca’ Pesaro, della Fondazione musei civici di Venezia. Mi è piaciuto molto l’allestimento, in quanto, le sale sono belle illuminate, al contrario di altre mostre, e con molti pannelli illustrativi. Ma chi è Armando Testa ?

Un pioniere della comunicazione visiva, Testa ha rivoluzionato il mondo della pubblicità con le sue campagne memorabili, i loghi inconfondibili e i personaggi immaginari che hanno popolato l’immaginario collettivo. La mostra, curata da Gemma De Angelis Testa, Tim Marlow ed Elisabetta Barisoni, offre un’occasione unica per scoprire e riscoprire l’ampiezza del suo talento, spaziando dalla pittura e scultura al disegno e all’animazione.

Il percorso espositivo, articolato in diverse sezioni, ripercorre le tappe salienti della carriera di Testa, a partire dagli esordi torinesi presso la Scuola Tipografica Vigliardi Paravia. Dagli iconici caroselli per Martini & Rossi e Carpano alle celebri immagini per Lavazza, Pirelli e Simmenthal, la mostra mette in luce la capacità di Testa di tradurre concetti complessi in immagini semplici ed immediate, capaci di suscitare emozioni e fissarsi nella memoria.

Oltre alle opere più conosciute, la mostra presenta anche materiali inediti e aspetti meno noti della produzione di Testa, come la sua ricerca sulla figura umana, le geometrie e i temi sociali. Significative interviste e contributi video arricchiscono l’esposizione, offrendo al pubblico una visione completa del genio creativo di Testa e del suo impatto sulla cultura del suo tempo.

A dive into memories at Ca’ Pesaro

Ca’ Pesaro opens the doors to an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to Armando Testa, iconic figure of the Italian artistic panorama of the twentieth century. From 20 April to 15 September 2024, the International Gallery of Modern Art in Venice will host an exhibition that traces the life and prolific career of this creative genius.

A few days ago, I went to Ca’ Pesaro, because I knew there were two new exhibitions, this one I’m talking about is one of them. I confess that it was a real blast from the past, and it will be for anyone of my generation who saw these ancestors of advertising posts on TV. Who remembers the blue hippo? Here inside the museum, you will be able to see these, and other advertising billboards, and you will be overcome by nostalgia.

The exhibition is located on the second floor of the Ca’ Pesaro museum, of the Civic Museums of Venice Foundation. I really liked the setup, as the rooms are beautifully lit, unlike other exhibitions, and with many illustrative panels. But who is Armando Testa?

A pioneer of visual communication, Testa revolutionized the world of advertising with his memorable campaigns, unmistakable logos and imaginary characters that populated the collective imagination. The exhibition, curated by Gemma De Angelis Testa, Tim Marlow and Elisabetta Barisoni, offers a unique opportunity to discover and rediscover the breadth of his talent, ranging from painting and sculpture to drawing and animation >

LA DONAZIONE ILEANA RUGGERI – Riverberi

Dall’11 febbraio 2023 al 10 aprile 2023, Ca’ Pesaro – Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna metterà a disposizione del pubblico le opere donata da Ileana Ruggeri al Comune di Venezia per rendere omaggio al suo recente lavoro con una mostra intitolata “Riverberi”.

Ileana Ruggeri è nata a Mantova nel 1949 e vive a Venezia. Nel 1968 si iscrive all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia e alla Facoltà di Architettura dell’Università, dove studia progettazione architettonica con Carlo Scarpa, laureandosi nel 1974.


Lungo il percorso della collezione permanente del museo si trovano due sale che espongono una grande varietà di acquerelli e alcuni importanti dipinti della Ruggeri degli ultimi anni. L’atmosfera dei riflessi lagunari e le infinite sfumature di colore che caratterizzano la qualità artistica della Ruggeri sono realizzate su opere su carta accuratamente selezionate che esprimono lo sguardo viscerale, poetico e onirico dell’artista. Nei dipinti affiorano echi dell’architettura veneziana, gli edifici sembrano emergere dall’atmosfera magica della città, o sembrano sprofondarvi dentro, in un continuo gioco di pensiero tra memoria e presente, dati reali e percorsi visivi.

Le capacità costruttive e architettoniche suggerite dalla Ruggeri sono pienamente evidenti nella sua costruzione di dittici e trittici, così come nelle vibranti raffigurazioni di paesaggi urbani, come i mercati di Rialto e San Giorgio, o la vasta Laguna delle Barene, amate dalla tradizione veneziana del ‘900.


La mostra nasce dalla volontà di presentare al pubblico la nuova donazione, diventando così un’occasione per vedere Venezia con occhi nuovi ed entusiasti, quasi un inno alla poesia della natura e all’amore per l’architettura urbana. In mia opinione, una mostra molto interessante, molto bella, sono contento che il Museo di arte moderna di Ca’ Pesaro abbia guadagnato delle opere in più, che il pubblico, Italiano e straniero, potrà godere, durante il suo soggiorno a Venezia.

THE ILEANA RUGGERI DONATION – Reverberations

From 11 February 2023 to 10 April 2023, Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art will make available to the public, the works donated by Ileana Ruggeri to the Municipality of Venice to pay homage to her recent work with an exhibition entitled “Reverbs“.

Ileana Ruggeri was born in Mantua in 1949 and lives in Venice. In 1968 she enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and at the Faculty of Architecture of the University, where she studied architectural design with Carlo Scarpa, graduating in 1974.


Along the route of the museum’s permanent collection, there are two rooms displaying a great variety of watercolors and some important paintings by Ruggeri from recent years. The atmosphere of lagoon reflections and the infinite shades of color that characterize Ruggeri’s artistic quality are created on carefully selected works on paper that express the visceral, poetic and dreamlike gaze of the artist. Echoes of Venetian architecture emerge in the paintings, the buildings seem to emerge from the magical atmosphere of the city, or seem to sink into it, in a continuous game of thought between memory and the present, real data and visual paths.

The building and architectural skills suggested by Ruggeri are fully evident in her construction of diptychs and triptychs, as well as in the vibrant depictions of urban landscapes, such as the markets of Rialto and San Giorgio, or the vast Laguna delle Barene, beloved by the Venetian tradition of the ‘ 900.


The exhibition stems from the desire to present the new donation to the public, thus becoming an opportunity to see Venice with new and enthusiastic eyes, almost a hymn to the poetry of nature and to the love for urban architecture. In my opinion, a very interesting, very beautiful exhibition, I am happy that the Museum of Modern Art of Ca’ Pesaro has gained more works, which the Italian and foreign public will be able to enjoy during their stay in Venice.

A Ca’ Pesaro – Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna pochi giorni fa, è stata presentata una nuova mostra: l’ultima raccolta di opere dell’artista Marco Petrus in occasione della futura mostra di Vittore Carpaccio in programma a marzo 2023 a Palazzo Ducale. Il titolo della mostra è “Capricci veneziani” ed è localizzata nella Sala Dom Pérignon dal 11 febbraio fino al 10 aprile 2023; curata da Michele Bonuomo e organizzata in collaborazione con la galleria M77, la collezione Capricci si ispira alle linee estremamente rigorose e misurate dei tipici calzoni veneziani, indossate da delle figure che animano alcune delle le scene su tela di Vittore Carpaccio e Giovanni Mansueti, esposte nelle sale delle Gallerie dell’Accademia a Venezia.

  

Marco Petrus è nato a Rimini nel 1960, ma ha vissuto con la sua famiglia a Milano fin dall’infanzia. Figlio d’arte – il padre Vitale Petrus (Kiev, 1934 – Milano, 1984) è stato un protagonista della scena artistica lombarda degli anni Sessanta e Settanta – si interessa fin da piccolo all’architettura e sperimenta diverse tecniche di stampa e riproduzione artistica. Si diploma al Corso di Assistente Grafico dell’Umanitaria nel 1980 e al Liceo Artistico nel 1984, anno in cui entra a far parte di un corso di breve durata presso la Facoltà di Architettura del Politecnico di Milano. In seguito apre una stamperia d’arte, che diventerà un luogo di incontro e di conoscenza con altri artisti, preludio alla sua prima attività pittorica con una personale a Milano nel 1991.

Tra la fine degli anni ’90 e l’inizio degli anni 2000 la sua pittura subisce un nuovo spostamento prospettico, da un lato aprendo una propria prospettiva analitica per studiare in modo più rigoroso l’urbanistica e la struttura della forma architettonica – anche in collaborazione con istituti e di diversa provenienza.

Iniziamo così dei cicli di opere di Petrus che riflettono sulla fluidità, la circolarità e la ripetizione della forma pittorica: se infatti il ​​Capriccio aveva come punto di partenza un’allusione alla pittura veneziana del Cinquecento, non poteva essere concepito senza tener conto di tanto studio delle forme vissute dall’astrazione geometrica e dell’arte ambientale e spazialista.

Pertanto, questa mostra “Capricci” deve essere percepita come un gioco mentale e/o un esercizio di disegno, ma anche come manifesto dell’amore per la pittura e le sue molteplici forme e possibilità: la mostra comprende all’incirca 26 tele di medie e grandi dimensioni, accostate o sovrapposte, in un continuo dinamico di rimandi, scambi, allusioni, che invita lo spettatore a osservare e risolvere con la testa, prima ancora che con gli occhi, come si fanno con i rebus e gli enigmi matematici.

Personalmente, mi è piaciuta molto questa mostra, per via dei colori vivaci e caldi delle sue opere, che danno una carica positiva, cosa che non sempre succede con l’astrattismo, in quanto alcuni preferiscono usare colori come il nero e il grigio. Consiglio a tutti quanti di andare a vederla !!

Venetian Caprices at Ca’ Pesaro Museum

Few days ago, a new exhibition was presented at Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art: the latest collection of works by the artist Marco Petrus on the occasion of the future exhibition of Vittore Carpaccio scheduled for March 2023 at Doge’s Palace. The title of the exhibition is “Venetian Capricci” and it’s located in the Dom Pérignon room, from 11 February until 10 April 2023; curated by Michele Bonuomo and organized in collaboration with the M77 gallery, the Capricci collection is inspired by the extremely rigorous and measured lines of the typical Venetian trousers, worn by the figures, that animate some of the scenes on canvas by Vittore Carpaccio and Giovanni Mansueti, exhibited in the halls of the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice.

  

Marco Petrus was born in Rimini in 1960, but has lived with his family in Milan since childhood. Son of art – his father Vitale Petrus (Kiev, 1934 – Milan, 1984) was a protagonist of the Lombard art scene in the 1960s and 1970s – he was interested in architecture from an early age and experimented with various printing and artistic reproduction techniques.

Between the end of the 90s and the beginning of the 2000s his painting undergoes a new perspective shift, on the one hand opening up its own analytical perspective to study urban planning and the structure of the architectural form more rigorously – also in collaboration with institutes and from diverse backgrounds.

Thus we begin cycles of works by Petrus that reflect on the fluidity, circularity and repetition of the pictorial form: if in fact the Capriccio had as its starting point, an allusion to Venetian painting of the sixteenth century, it could not be conceived without taking into account so much study of the forms experienced by geometric abstraction and environmental and spatial art.

Therefore, this “Capricci” exhibition must be perceived as a mental game and a/or a drawing exercise, but also as a manifesto of the love for painting and its many forms and possibilities: the exhibition includes approximately 26 medium and large canvases dimensions, juxtaposed or superimposed, in a dynamic continuum of references, exchanges, allusions, which invites the viewer to observe and solve with his head, even before his eyes, as is done with rebuses and mathematical puzzles.

Personally, I really liked this exhibition, because of the bright and warm colors of his works, which give a positive charge, something that doesn’t always happen with abstract art, as some prefer to use colors like black and gray. I recommend everyone to go and see it!!

C’è una mostra a dir poco stupenda nel museo di Ca’Pesaro, talmente bella che ve ne voglio parlare e raccomandare, vi piacerà di sicuro ! La mostra è esposta dal 22 aprile – 25 settembre 2022, e mostra 12 opere dell’artista Raqib Shaw.

Nato a Calcutta, in India, e cresciuto nel Kashmir, Raqib Shaw proviene da una famiglia di mercanti e la sua prima esperienza nella convivenza insieme ad oggetti d’antiquariato, gioielli e tessuti e tappeti esotici ha ispirato i suoi dipinti altamente intricati e dai colori vivaci. Crea visioni fantastiche di regni ultraterreni popolati da re scimmia saltellanti, centauri con cinghie di cuoio e temibili guerrieri con la testa di tigre e zebre. Il mondo che ritrae è bello, terrificante, dissoluto, lussuoso e intriso di mitologia, con un’emozionante sinergia tra l’immaginario fantastico e la delicatezza della sua tecnica.

I dipinti di Shaw su pannelli di betulla e carta, le sue sculture in bronzo, spesso traggono ispirazione dalla mitologia orientale e occidentale, nonché dai capolavori della storia dell’arte. Utilizzando queste fonti per costruire una struttura compositiva o narrativa, aggiunge elementi dal suo lessico visivo distintivo, utilizzando una gamma di media insoliti, tra cui strass, glitter e smalti. Dipinge con squisita maestria figure, tappeti, costumi e paesaggi mitici, utilizzando un metodo certosino che richiama la tecnica del cloisonné usata fin dall’antichità per decorare la lavorazione dei metalli e della ceramica

.Un’artista molto importante dunque e molto bravo. Mi sono piaciute moltissimo le sue opere, e consiglio a tutti di andare a vederle. Era da tanto che non vedevo una mostra così bella !!

Raquib Shaw Memory Palace

There is an exhibition that is nothing short of wonderful in the Ca’Pesaro museum, so beautiful that I want to tell you about it, and recommend it, you will love it for sure! The exhibition runs from 22 April – 25 September 2022, and shows 12 works by the artist Raqib Shaw.

Born in Calcutta, India and raised in Kashmir, Raqib Shaw comes from a merchant family and his first experience living among antiques, jewelry and exotic fabrics and carpets inspired his highly intricate and brightly colored paintings. . He creates fantastic visions of otherworldly realms populated by leaping monkey kings, leather-strapped centaurs and fearsome tiger-headed warriors and zebras. The world he portrays is beautiful, terrifying, dissolute, luxurious and steeped in mythology, with an exciting synergy between the fantastic imagery and the delicacy of his technique.

Shaw’s paintings on birch and paper panels, and his bronze sculptures, often draw inspiration from Eastern and Western mythology, as well as from masterpieces of art history. Using these sources to construct a compositional or narrative structure, he adds elements from his distinctive visual lexicon, using a range of unusual media, including rhinestones, glitter and glazes. He paints figures, carpets, costumes and mythical landscapes with exquisite skill, using a Carthusian method that recalls the cloisonné technique used since ancient times to decorate metalworking and ceramics.

Shaw lives and works in his Peckham studio in South London, a city he first visited in 1992 and where he enrolled at Central St Martins in 1998, completing his Masters in 2002. His work has been the subject of major solo exhibitions since shortly after his graduation, including the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh (2018); Whitworth, Manchester (2017); Rudolfinum, Prague (2013); Manchester Art Gallery (2013); The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2008); North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art (2006); and Tate Britain, London (2006)
