Le serie televisive, avvicinano la gente all’arte? Secondo me si. Lo ammetto, non sono un grande esperto di pittura, vedo qualcosa che mi colpisce, e in quel momento decido se se mi piace. Non ho uno stile preferito o un pittore, tuttavia, prima, non ero interessato e non sapevo quasi niente di Van gogh, poi ho visto un episodio del Doctor who, e tutto è cambiato.

Non avevo mai sentito nessuno parlare in quei termini di un pittore, e mi ha meravigliato, per non parlare che forse quello era l’episodio più commovente di tutta la 5 stagione (a mia opinione) e così sono andato su internet a scovare quello che si poteva trovare su di lui.

Non è il solo esempio. Nelle varie stagioni di Star Trek, come la Nuova Generazione, si vede spesso il capitano Jean Luc Picard che legge libri di letteratura inglese, o si vede Data che suona il violino, dipinge un quadro, recita una parte.

In molte serie televisive, si cerca di inserire negli episodi un elemento di cultura, quasi come fosse un hobby che il protagonista cura nel suo tempo libero. Si cerca di mischiare la cultura con il divertimento che una finction può offrire. La gente si appassiona alle serie tv e ai suoi personaggi, in tutti i loro aspetti. Quindi, conoscendo queste “curiosità” sui loro beniamini, può succedere che si appassionano anche loro alle stesse cose ? Non è forse anche questo un modo per avvicinare la gente all’arte? Io penso di si.

In your opinion, does the tv series makes people approach the art? In my humble opinion, the answer is yes. I am not an expert of painting, I don’t have a favorite painting style or a favorite artist. However, it’s happened, that, before, I didn’t know nothing, or almost nothing about Van gogh, and when I saw the episode “Vincent and the doctor” of the famous tv series “Doctor who” the 5 season, and everything changed.

“DOCTOR:  But I just wondered, between you and me, in a hundred words, where do you think Van Gogh rates in the history of art?
BLACK: Well, big question, but to me, Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly, the most popular great painter of all time. The most beloved. His command of colour, the most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world. No one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world’s greatest artist, but also one of the greatest men who ever lived.”

I  never heard anyone speak in those terms of a painter, and I was amazed, not to mention that maybe that was the most moving episode of the entire fifth season (in my opinion) and so I went on the internet to find anything about him.

Is not the only example. In the various seasons of Star Trek the New Generation, you often see Captain Jean Luc Picard who reads books of English literature, or you see Data playing the violin, paints a picture, playing a part.

In many television series, they try to insert an element in the episodes of culture, almost like a hobby that the protagonist care in his spare time. Trying to mix culture with fun that a finction can offer. People likes almost everything about the series and its characters, in all their aspects. So, knowing these “curiosity” about their favorite charaters, can it happen, that they start too, to be fond of the same things? Is not this also a way to introduce people to the art? I think the answer is yes.
